Naughty!

I may have more amusing snippets on the CEC once I post on the election aftermath.

As to the whole "private school tie" thing I am sure it exists but I think you will find it is more multicultural than you expect.Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12710148812664294219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19268887.post-1164443485688444552006-11-25T19:31:00.000+11:002006-11-25T19:31:00.000+11:00Thank you Daniel for explaining the Citizens Elect...Thank you Daniel for explaining the Citizens Electoral Council to me. If only I had read this post before I voted, I might have voted exactly the same way... hang on...
And Dave, the Liberals Do Something all the time... these are people who are all too eager to do something for their mates at the least provocation, especialy if their mates are white, caucasian, wealthy and graduates of the same private school.
Present Labor are bloody useless, I have to concur. I place them ahead of the Liberals when I vote, but I do so in the knowledge that I am choosing Nothing Of Substance over Something I Don't Like.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19268887.post-1164063887093119302006-11-21T10:04:00.000+11:002006-11-21T10:04:00.000+11:00O my God I love that major reform! And even if it may have come too late for my party it will still make for a more representative parliament and more interesting elections.

The whole process from the word go was cool. Bracks started by stacking the panel (whose job it was to conduct public consultations on upper house reform) with old Liberal Party members who happen support proportional representation - what a manoeuvrer!

Yes - that was one case in which "Bracks - Listens - Acts".

(-8}Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12710148812664294219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19268887.post-1164062953784345562006-11-21T09:49:00.000+11:002006-11-21T09:49:00.000+11:00Well, when you get your well-deserved upper house ...Well, when you get your well-deserved upper house seat, I'll be reminding you that Labor have delivered at least one major reform. :-)David Goldinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12988083380983768496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19268887.post-1164013018091960782006-11-20T19:56:00.000+11:002006-11-20T19:56:00.000+11:00To DaveIn response to your comments I have elabora...To Dave

In response to your comments I have elaborated on the simplistic phrases I was originally using. I will do so once more.

There are 'activists' like me who tend to want governments to deliver major reform agendas. Naturally we will feel sold short by governments that tinker here and make adjustments there and always look to the bottom line and deliver budget surpluses. But what we want and what is in the public interest may well be different things.

In other words (to return to my simplifications) to be a 'do-nothing government' is the prerogative of of a 'natural party of government'.

To Vivienne

Thanks. It will be an interesting result I think whatever the outcome.Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12710148812664294219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19268887.post-1163984793177545362006-11-20T12:06:00.000+11:002006-11-20T12:06:00.000+11:00Hi Daniel,Congratulations on your candidacy, and g...Hi Daniel,

Congratulations on your candidacy, and good luck for next Saturday.vcollinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00125678748213020490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19268887.post-1163978231225622202006-11-20T10:17:00.000+11:002006-11-20T10:17:00.000+11:00Surely Labor do, in fact, do something though?"Do ...Surely Labor do, in fact, do something though?

"Do nothing" doesn't temper "natural party of government", it makes it seem like the epithet is pure daydreaming. Many criticisms of the Bracks Government (particularly from pressure groups they once courted) is that they renege on promises or take far to long to implement them.

Now this may be because we have a very cautious state government interested in the bottom line and that may be exactly what the public want - in the words of the ALP slogan we have a government that "governs for everyone" rather than select interests. And if so this moderate 'Third Way' form of Labor seems to be working - the ALP are in power in every state and territory which is something that has never happened till recently.

As for the 'do something' Liberals I have been interested by the way in which announcements of Liberal Party policy innovations have been followed by Labor responses that they are in fact adopting the same policy. This interplay between government and opposition has delivered some worthwhile outcomes such as the abolition of Zone 3 regardless of who wins power next weekend.

To Julie

Thanks Julie.
